I’ll bet you hear, you say or you think these four words every day.  Probably several times every day.  And, I’ll bet you don’t even realize it. Nor, do you realize how dangerous they are for your business growth and success.

Want to know what these word are?

“I already know that!”

Simple but powerful words.  It is the only phrase I know of that has the uncanny effect of stopping us from hearing, much less, comprehending what is being said next.  These words act like a virtual “listening off” switch.

Many years ago, I learned that when I hear myself think or say “I already know that,” it is time for me to pay close attention to what is said next.  There is always a nugget of information that I need to know coming my way.

I challenge you to adopt this tactic… The next time you think “I already know that,” stop and listen with a different attitude and from a different perspective.  Ask yourself these questions:

  1. What did I do with this information the first time I heard it?
  2. What am I not hearing?
  3. What is being said behind what is being said?
