Olympic Lesson: A Case for Keeping Your Goals Confidential

One of my mentors, Alex Mandossian makes a case for keeping your goals confidential. This goes against many of the success gurus, who recommend making your goals very public.

However, by keeping your goals private, it safeguards them from the naysayers - even those that mean well.

Never have I seen a better example of keeping confidential than watching Michael Phelps win Olympic gold after Olympic gold - or should I say Olympic goal after Olympic goal. It was well publicized that he kept his goals for the games written on a small piece of paper that he read every day. He did not share those goals publicly, but kept them confidential throughout the Olympics.

Now, every sports museum in the world wants that piece of paper.

So, for the really big goals, perhaps, the best strategy is to keep confidential. Michael Phelps has certainly provided the inspiration to do so.

This is a controversial topic so leave your comments.
