Selecting a Market Niche
When positioning yourself as an expert, selecting a market niche or market can seem daunting. But it can be a very simple process. Here is an outline of the process:
- Focus on the types of professionals or consumers that are most like you and that you are most like. It absolutely has to be who you are most like, because that is where you will have the most credibility. And, credibility leads to trust. Trust leads to relationships. And, relationships lead to sales. Ultimately, you want them to know, like and trust you.
- Focus on consumers that you like the most - those that you enjoy working with and feel comfortable with.
- Think of your market as a person. A market is not a thing, it is a person.
- Make sure the market is broad enough for you to develop multiple products for the same market.
- The more specific a market is the easier and more predictable it is. The easier it is to find, the more predictable their behavior will be.
Once you define your market and your area of expertise, it is a simple process to develop products and services that will be in high demand in the marketplace.
